Being the Hands and Feet of Jesus Through Encouragement

Jul 11, 2024

God’s word tells us we are to encourage and uplift one another. We all know this world can be tough. It’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters when we live in a time with daily conflict, uphill battles, and looming pressure to care for our responsibilities. Many feel discouraged and feel anxiety, which can ultimately lead to despair.

In difficult times, God uses His people to speak truth and encouragement into the hearts of others, reassuring them that He has overcome the world. This reassurance of others brings glory to God. A few words, a hug, or a kind gesture may make a huge difference in someone’s life. We may not know what goes on in their lives behind the scenes, but God does.

Barnabas in the Bible was such an encourager. In fact, his name means “son of encouragement.” He was a good, enthusiastic, joyful man, and encouraged God’s people. Acts 11:23 says, “He encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.” He’s like a good friend who says, “Keep swimming! Don’t give up! God has you!” We all need a friend like that! If you make yourself available, God will put you in the path of someone who needs to hear your positive words.

Your Call to Action

Spend some quiet time with the Lord. Ask Him to reveal new ways for you to share His mighty love with others. Ask Him to give you the strength to march toward the doors He is opening in your life and equip you with the right tools and passion to reach out to others in His name and impact the Kingdom.

“Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up” (Proverbs 12:25)

“But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness” (Hebrews 3:13)

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Prayer

Father God, thank You for sending Your Son as the ultimate example. Help us to love like Jesus and encourage our neighbors at all times. In Your name, we pray, Amen.
