Biden Bails On Presidency, Endorses Kamala Harris
President Joe Biden resigned his candidacy for reelection Sunday, with The Associated Press saying the decision came after his “disastrous debate” against former President Donald Trump led to increasing pressure from his allies to bail.
The AP described Biden’s debate performed as one in which “he 81-year-old president trailed off, often gave nonsensical answers and failed to call out the former president’s many falsehoods.” The commentary comes in surprising antithesis to The AP’s typically straight-line news coverage.
Biden reported plans to serve the remainder of his term, which officially end of noon on January 20, 2025. (RELATED: Who Is J.D. Vance, Trump’s Vice Presidential Pick?)
Kamala Harris Endorsed
Also surprising to many, Biden then endorsed his Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination for President. Harris could not win her own state’s support during the 2020 Democratic primaries.
“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President,” Biden said on X. “And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.” (RELATED: Assassination Is ‘First Political Memory’ For Many Gen Z)
