Cartels Hiding Fentanyl In Livestock Trailers: REPORT
U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a warning in July about organizer criminals and smugglers bringing fentanyl into the country by way of vehicles that transport livestock.
The CBP memo published by NewsNation warns officials to be on the lookout for a “trailer smuggling trend.” Some criminals are apparently stashing packets of the deadly man-made narcotic into the side rails and metal frames of livestock trailers. (LEARN MORE: Experts Warn Of China ‘Smokescreen’)
Stats On Fentanyl
Some 45.8 million fentanyl pills were seized in Nogales, Arizona, in 2023. In 2024 thus far, 24 million fentanyl pills have been seized in the same area. “The cartels are always a step ahead of us,” said Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland. “Whether it’s in between the ports of entry or actually at the ports of entry. It makes you wonder how long have they been getting away with it?”
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is often mixed with street drugs in order to increase potency and therefore dependency by users. The substance is believed to kill more than 100,00 Americans a year and is linked with 70% of overdose deaths and poisonings. A majority, if not all the fentanyl in the U.S. is made in China.
