Choosing a Soft Heart: Rekindling Your Hearts Compassion
The Bible frequently cautions us against the dangers of a hardened heart – an unmoved heart where compassion is needed and one that defies God. This hardened state can afflict anyone, including devout Christians. It’s essential to stay aware of the condition of our hearts. Jesus said, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). Similarly, King Solomon urged us to “guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Proverbs 4:23), emphasizing the necessity for a soft and righteous heart.
Repairing the hardness of our hearts requires humility and repentance – a legitimate shift in direction, not merely regret. Digging into God’s Word is crucial as it aligns our thoughts with God’s heart, renewing our minds. Obedience to God’s teachings is paramount. We must listen and follow Him whenever He speaks to us. In our weakest moments, resulting from disappointments, failures, or giving in to temptations, God extends His grace to revitalize us, touching our hearts with His love. He provides the healing balm to soften our hearts in a way only He can.
Your Call to Action
Don’t let your heart become a barren wasteland; let it be a fertile field for the Word of God to grow. Surrender your heart to Him, immerse yourself in the Scriptures, listen to His voice, and act obediently. Let the grace of God flow through you, healing and renewing your heart. The opportunity is here, and the decision is yours: soften your heart and embrace the love and peace that God provides.
“And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart” (Ezekiel 36:26).
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10).
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).
Prayer
Father God, we praise You today! Help us to recognize when we have hardened our hearts against You. Give us the strength to turn away from the things that influence our thoughts and stand between us, creating distance. Bring us closer to You, opening our hearts to Your guidance. We know nothing is impossible for You and we claim healing in Your name. We surrender to Your will so You can do a work in us. In Jesus’s name, we pray, Amen.
A Comforting Closure
In the stillness of your heart, remember that God stands ever-ready, with arms wide open, to embrace you in His loving grace; trust in His healing power and allow His love to soften the hardened areas of your heart.
