Dad Avoids Prison Sentence For Abortion Protest

Devout Christian father of 11, Paul Vaughn, avoided prison time in early July after violating a federal law against blocking access to abortion clinics.

Vaughn was sentenced to three years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Aleta Trauger, according to the Christian Post. The father was convicted in January of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act in 2021.

Vaughn was one of 11 people originally indicted for blocking the entrance to the Carafem Health Center Clinic in Tennessee in March 2021.

Eva Edl, Eva Zastrow, James Zastrow, and Paul Place were found guilty by a federal judge for protesting outside of the Carafem Health Center Clinic in March of 2021. The defendants now await sentencing, which could see them receive up to six months in prison, five years of supervised release, and be fined up to $10,000. Lauren Handy, 30, and John Hinslaw, 69, were sentenced to four years, nine months, and one year, nine months, respectively, for their actions in organizing a protest outside a Washington D.C. abortion clinic in October 2020, according to Fox News. Hinslaw, Handy, and several others blocked access to the clinic and chained themselves to furniture inside while livestreaming their actions via Facebook, Million Voices covered in May.
