Global Uncertainty: Overcoming Fear and Worry
There has been no shortage of things to worry about in the last few years, with one national or global crisis after another. Gripping fear has consumed people at times. Most recently, anxiety has centered around the border crisis, wars in Israel and Ukraine, and how these affect our economy and national safety. To make matters worse, our news media is untrustworthy, and we must rely on smaller news outlets to report the truth. And the truth is hard to find with an Administration that needs to be more forthcoming with information.
Indeed, fear and worry rob us of joy and precious time. Matthew 6:27 is pretty direct: “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” They do more harm than good, taking our eyes off God and onto things out of our control. When we focus on obstacles, we lose sight of the objective – eternity in Heaven with Jesus. Our faith will triumph over fear if we take everything to God in prayer and leave it at the feet of Jesus!
Further, Paul said in Philippians 4:6-7: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then, you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” We might feel silly or think it is too small of a request for God, but it isn’t! When we feel overwhelmed, we can say, “This is too much, Lord. Please take this worry and fear from me and help me to trust you with things I cannot control.” God is more powerful than anything that burdens us! He will help us overcome and change our perspective to one that depends on Him for peace and reassurance in times of trouble. He wants so much more for us than a life full of fear and worry!
