The Importance of Speaking Up

Published: April 29, 2022
There are countless important issues to fight for in the United States in any given year. From Second Amendment rights to educational freedom to free speech and secure borders, there are many vital causes worth speaking up for. And while it can be daunting to try and make a difference on so many fronts, we all must do our part to help advocate for the causes that matter most to us. One of the reasons it is so important to speak up and fight for change in the US is because those with power and privilege have long silenced our voices. For centuries, people of color, women, and other marginalized individuals have fought for their rights and equality in this country.

History of Fighting for Change

The history of fighting for change in the United States is long and proud. Every generation has had its heroes and champions who have fought for progress, even in the face of adversity. Some of the most notable moments in our history have come about because somebody dared to stand up and speak out against injustice. For example, the American Revolution would not have been possible without the brave men and women who fought against British tyranny. The Civil War was only won because Abraham Lincoln and his fellow Unionists were willing to risk everything to end slavery. And the Civil Rights Movement would not have gained as much traction as it did if people like Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks hadn't been willing to put their lives on the line. These are just a few examples of how powerful speaking up can be. When we use our voices to fight for what's right, we can bring about significant societal changes.

Current Issues to Fight For

As we look around at the current state of affairs in the United States, it's clear that there are still many vital issues worth fighting for. Here are just a few examples:

2nd Amendment Rights

In recent years, there has been a lot of debate surrounding the Second Amendment and gun control. While some people believe stricter gun laws are necessary to prevent mass shootings, others argue that this would infringe on their right to bear arms. This is an incredibly important issue to stay informed about, as it has the potential to impact all Americans.

Education Freedom

The fight for educational freedom has been gaining steam in recent years. Many parents and students are concerned about the state education system, which they believe is too focused on standardized testing and doesn't allow for enough creativity or choice. We must stand up for educational freedom so that all students can get a quality education that meets their needs.

Secure Borders

The current immigration crisis facing our country has sparked heated debates on both sides of the political spectrum. Some argue that we must secure our borders to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the US, while others maintain that this fuels xenophobia and racism. We need to be informed and active participants in this debate if there is any hope of creating real change. As we can see, speaking up and fighting for change is more critical than ever. If we want to make progress on the most vital issues, we must be willing to use our voices and stand up for what we believe in.

Join the Fight!

There are 30 million Christians in the United States who don't use their voice to change policy. But your voice does matter. Especially when a million of us speak at once to those that have the power to change things — the policymakers in this country. And the policymakers have told us the number one thing that changes their position regarding issues is when a constituent from their district mails them a signed note. So sign for Million Voices and use your voice today. Together, we can make a difference.
