"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope" (Romans 15:13).
“For she said, ‘If I touch even His garments, I will be made well’” (Mark 5:28).
Of all the inspiring stories in the Bible about faith and healing, Jesus healing the woman who bled for 12 years is one of the most beautiful. This woman spent everything she had on physicians and remedies, but instead of getting better, she only got worse. Defeated and desperate, she heard Jesus was coming into town. She believed Him to be the Messiah of the Malachi 4:2 prophecy: “But to you who fear My name, The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings.” The reference to “wings” at that time, was likened to “borders” or “hems.” The woman knew she would be healed if she got close enough to touch the hem of His robe. In pursuit of Jesus, she fought the crowds surrounding Him with determination and faith to receive her miracle. She touched the hem of His robe from behind, and her bleeding immediately stopped!
“‘Who touched me?’ Jesus asked.
Everyone denied it, and Peter said, ‘Master, this whole crowd is pressing up against you.’
But Jesus said, ‘Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from Me.’ When the woman realized that she could not stay hidden, she began to tremble and fell to her knees in front of Him. The whole crowd heard her explain why she had touched Him and that she had been immediately healed. ‘Daughter,’ He said to her, ‘your faith has made you well. Go in peace’” (Luke 8:45-48).
Though she battled with her ailment for over a decade, the woman didn’t give up hope. It took many years for her to receive answered prayer, but her relationship with God never faltered and her faith in Him set her free.
