The Veil Was Torn: Our Open Way to God
When Jesus gave up His spirit on the cross, the veil in the temple was torn in two from top to bottom (Matthew 27:51). This was a deeply symbolic event. The veil separated the Holy of Holies, the place of God’s presence, from the rest of the temple where ordinary people stood. Only the high priest could enter once a year to offer atonement for the people’s sins. However, when Christ died, He became our perfect High Priest and final sacrifice. The tearing of the veil was God’s declaration that the barrier between Himself and humanity had been removed. Through Jesus, we now have full, direct access to the Father.
This truth fills us with awe and gratitude. We are no longer kept at a distance or required to rely on another to stand in our place before God. Hebrews 10:19-20 tells us we can enter the Most Holy Place “by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body.” The torn veil invites us to come near, to speak with God freely, and to rest in His presence daily. Let us not take this access lightly—draw near with a sincere heart, knowing that the price has been fully paid, and the way is forever open.
Your Call to Action
As we reflect on the torn veil and the access it grants us to God, let us not take this privilege for granted. Now is the time to boldly approach His throne of grace, knowing that we no longer need to be separated by people, rituals, or distance. Take a moment each day to enter into His presence with a heart of gratitude and reverence. Let the knowledge that Jesus has opened the way stir you to live with greater purpose—seek Him in prayer, dive into His Word, and walk in the freedom He has given. The veil is torn, the way is open, and our Heavenly Father is waiting for us to come near. How will you respond today?
“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body” (Hebrews 10:19-20).
“For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit” (Ephesians 2:18).
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'” (John 14:6).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible gift of access to Your presence through the death of Your Son, Jesus. Thank You for tearing the veil and removing the barrier that once separated us from You. We are humbled by the price Jesus paid so that we can draw near to You with confidence and worship. Help us to approach You with hearts full of gratitude, knowing that we are always welcome in Your presence. Teach us to live in the freedom and intimacy that Christ has made possible. We love You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A Comforting Closure
No matter where we are or what we’re facing, God’s presence is always near, and through Jesus, we can approach Him with the confidence that He hears and cares for us deeply.
