The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is preparing to sue Apple, possibly as soon as March 21, for allegedly violating antitrust laws related to access to hardware and software features on iPhones, Newsmax reported.

While the specific nature of the charges is not public yet, it may have something to do with Apple’s restrictions on the ways hardware devices can work with iPhone sensors. Makers of different devices have complained of Apple limiting their access to devices while developing competing products.

One example cited by Newsmax involves the company Tile, who have openly complained about Apple restricting access to information for development purposes. “Apple began selling AirTags – which can be attached to items like car keys to help users find them when they are lost – several years after Tile had been selling a similar product,” the outlet reported.

Apple Has Changed Course Before

One of the biggest complaints from users is that Apple products are barely compatible with other types of cell phones. For example, the Messenger app allows Apple users to send pretty much anything to each other without file corruption. The same cannot be said for when Apple users send information, such as images and videos, to Android users.

After hearing these complaints, Apple said it would move forward in support of new messaging technologies to make it easier for users to work between iPhone and Android.
