Olympics Under Fire For Transgender Boxer

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) came under heavy fire Thursday after a man was allowed to compete in the women’s boxing event, forcing his female opponent to stop the fight after less than a minute.

“It could have been the match of a lifetime, but I had to preserve my life as well in that moment,” Angela Carini of Italy said following her fight against Algeria’s male boxer Imane Khelif. Khelif was disqualified from the Women’s World Championship in 2023 over his elevated levels of testosterone, per his biological gender.

“I got into the ring to fight. I didn’t give up, but one punch hurt too much and so I said enough. I’m going out with my head held high,” Carini stated. “After the second punch, after years of experience, I felt a strong pain in the nose. I said enough, because I didn’t want. “I am in pieces because I am a fighter, they taught me to be a warrior. I have always tried to behave with honour, I have always represented my country with loyalty. This time I didn’t manage to because I couldn’t fight any more. Regardless of the person I had in front, of me, which doesn’t interest me, regardless of all the row, I just wanted to win. I wanted to face the person that I had in front of me and to fight,” she continued.

X CEO Elon Musk agreed with the statement that “men don’t belong in women’s sports.” Team GB tennis player Andy Murray’s mother, Judy Murray said, “This should never have been allowed to happen. IOC Defends Decision

“Obviously I am not going to comment on individuals,” said the IOC’s Mark Adams. “That’s really invidious and unfair. But I would just say that everyone competing in the women’s category is complying with the competition eligibility rules. They are women in their passports and it is stated that is the case.”
