Biden-Harris DOJ Sues State Over Election Integrity Measures
The Biden-Harris administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) announced in late September that it is suing the state of Alabama over its election integrity measures.
The suit is aimed at Alabama and its Republican Secretary of State Wes Allen. Allen and his colleagues recently identified 3,251 noncitizens registered to vote in Alabama, and ordered them and any other noncitizens be removed from voter rolls by the Boards of Registrars. The right to vote is one of the most sacred rights in our democracy,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division in a statement from the DOJ. “As Election Day approaches, it is critical that Alabama redress voter confusion resulting from its list maintenance mailings sent in violation of federal law. Officials across the country should take heed of the National Voter Registration Act’s clear and unequivocal restrictions on systematic list maintenance efforts that fall within 90 days of an election. The Quiet Period Provision of federal law exists to prevent eligible voters from being removed from the rolls as a result of last-minute, error-prone efforts. The Justice Department will continue to use all the tools it has available to ensure that the voting rights of every eligible voter are protected.”

The DOJ is seeking “injunctive relief that would restore the ability of impacted eligible voters to vote unimpeded on Election Day and would prohibit future Quiet Period violations.”
“Millions of Americans are rightfully concerned about the presence of ineligible, deceased, and noncitizen voters on their state’s voter file. We should applaud states that have taken action to shore up their voter rolls,” FRC Action Director Matt Carpenter told the Washington Stand. “When North Carolina, or Virginia, or Ohio, for example, clean their voter file, they eliminate the potential for fraudulently cast ballots and boost confidence in their states that the election results will best reflect the will of the voters.” Carpenter added, “The federal government should be a partner in this effort. Instead, we see them impeding this necessary work to make cheating in elections harder.” (MORE: Trump To Drop Tax Rate For American Manufacturers)
Vice President Kamala Harris seems to have had her presidential campaign sue Georgia’s State Election Board after they voted in favor of hand-counting ballots. The campaign justified the lawsuit by claiming it aims to “protect the sanctity of the state’s laws and to prevent election night chaos, this Court should declare that the Hand Count Rule exceeds SEB’s statutory authority,” according to the Washington Stand.
