Pastor Says ‘God Is In Control’ Is ‘Cop-Out’, Get Political!
Pastor Rafael Cruz, father of Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, urged Christians to get politically active, stating that the phrase “God is in control” is a “cop-out” for avoiding His work.
Cruz made the bold statement in September at the Christians Engaged Conference at Sojourn Church in Carrollton, Texas. He further argued that “the Church has failed America” by not being more outspoken. “Unfortunately, we have many pastors that are a bunch of wimps,” said Cruz. “The pastor has a responsibility to lead the sheep in every area of life. Most pastors are not doing that,” according to the Christian Post. (JOIN THE REVIVAL: Christians Called To Shine ‘Light’ On ‘Dark Institutions’)
Be Bold!
“Most pastors are afraid to say anything controversial. To say anything that may offend somebody. Because if they offend somebody and they leave, their money leaves with them. Jesus called them ‘hirelings.’ They are no longer pastors,” Cruz continued.
“I want to tell you, ‘God is in control’ is a cop-out,” he said. “‘God is in control’ is an excuse that Christians give to justify sitting on their rear ends doing nothing, while the country is going to Hell in a handbasket.” Cruz argued that phrase isn’t even biblical, as it “denies individual responsibility; it denies free will.” (RELATED: Russell Brand, Jordan Peterson Lead 25,000 In Lord’s Prayer)
“If there is a fundamental principle of Scripture, it is the principle of stewardship. We are stewards of all of God’s creation.” cited Genesis 1:26-28, in which God gives mankind “dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”
Other Pastors Echo Call
On Oct. 1, Pastor Greg Laurie echoed Cruz’s call for Christians to accept their civic responsibility and become politically active. “Every Christian should vote! Did you know that there at 90 million Evangelicals there are eligible to vote in America? 40 Million of the do not vote and 15 Million of them are not even registered! It’s a right, privilege and responsibility for the Christian to vote. Let’s do this people!” Laurie said in a sermon shared on social media.
