Houston’s Largest Planned Parenthood Facility to Close Amid Federal Funding Cuts

In what many see as a major victory for the pro-life movement, the largest Planned Parenthood in the nation is shutting its doors, and in Houston, of all places. According to Christianity Today, this facility “gained widespread attention in 2015, when the Center for Medical Progress published clandestine video from the clinic.” Those videos exposed Planned Parenthood for “the harvesting and sale of aborted fetal body parts at major abortion clinics across the country.”
This closure comes just weeks after a wave of other Planned Parenthood facilities were forced to close, following tens of millions of dollars in federal funding cuts. In the spring of 2025, President Trump signed an executive order enforcing the Hyde Amendment, which protects Americans from being compelled to pay for abortions through their tax dollars.
The order explains:
“The Order recognizes that, for nearly five decades, Congress has enacted the Hyde Amendment and a series of additional laws to protect taxpayers from being forced to pay for abortion. Contrary to this longstanding commonsense policy, the previous administration embedded federal funding of elective abortion in a wide variety of government programs.”
The order also established a rule preventing Title X taxpayer funds from subsidizing the abortion industry.
A Long-Awaited Shift
President Trump’s executive actions came two years after the Supreme Court’s 5–4 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which returned the authority to regulate abortion to the states. For decades, conservatives and pro-life advocates have pushed for the defunding of Planned Parenthood, arguing that taxpayers should not be forced to support an organization they view as both immoral and corrupt.
Trump himself celebrated the moment under his familiar slogan, “Promises Made, Promises Kept.”
“President Trump promised to protect and defend a vote of the people, from within the states, on the issue of life. Today’s executive actions build on the long list of accomplishments from the first Trump Administration to support the sanctity of every human life and prevent taxpayer funding of abortion.”
For many in the pro-life community, this is the first genuine sense of relief since the original Roe decision in 1973. Federal inaction stretched across decades, and many had wondered if change would ever come.
Pro-Life Alternatives Growing
Meanwhile, Houston is already seeing growth in alternatives for women in crisis. Christianity Today reported that the Houston Coalition for Life’s Blue Blossom Pregnancy Centers have seen traffic increase steadily since the overturning of Roe v. Wade. In 2024, more than 5,000 women visited their headquarters and four mobile centers, a record number.
Pro-life leaders are encouraging Christians to support these alternatives as Planned Parenthood’s influence declines. Lila Rose, president of Live Action, celebrated the news on X (formerly Twitter):
Praise God! The largest Planned Parenthood abortion facility is closing. Lives will be saved.

Allie Beth Stuckey also urged Christians to remain engaged:
“The largest abortion facility in the world is shutting down. Christian, don’t let ANYONE tell you that fighting the culture war isn’t worth it.”
The Road Ahead
With Roe overturned and Planned Parenthood losing significant streams of taxpayer funding, pro-lifers see this as a new season of opportunity. Still, the battle is far from over. Nearly a dozen states passed constitutional amendments in November 2024 explicitly protecting abortion access, showing that the fight has shifted from the federal level to state legislatures.
The church cannot assume that legal victories alone will change the culture. As history shows, law reflects the values of the people, and lasting change requires transformation of the heart. That is why prayer, discipleship, and civic engagement remain essential.
The closure of Houston’s Planned Parenthood is a milestone, but it is also a reminder. For Christians, this is not the end of the fight for life, but the beginning of a new chapter.
