Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas recently shared a strong message about the future of our nation. He spoke to students and teachers at the University of Texas at Austin. His speech marked the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

During his talk, Thomas explained how modern progressivism is changing the country. He believes this political shift threatens the core values that built America. What makes this speech from Justice Thomas so powerful is that he seldom speaks publicly. When he does, it is powerful.

The Threat to Our Founding Principles

Justice Thomas did not hold back when discussing the dangers of progressivism. As reported by Newsmax, he stated that this movement seeks to replace the original ideas of the Declaration of Independence. Progressivism, he argued, changes how we view our God-given rights.

According to Thomas, progressives believe rights come from the government, not from God. This idea requires people to be subservient to political leaders. He believes this weakness goes against a Constitution built on transcendent rights.

He pointed out that these progressive ideas have been growing since Woodrow Wilson’s presidency. Over the decades, they have slowly entered our system of government. Thomas warned that progressivism and our founding principles cannot coexist forever.

The justice also criticized leaders in Washington who abandon their convictions. He said many politicians water down their messages to please the crowds. They hide in the tall grass instead of fighting for what is right.

These leaders often call themselves thoughtful moderates to justify their failures. This lack of strong leadership puts our nation’s survival at risk.

Thomas reminded the audience that our system was designed to limit government power. The founders wanted to prevent centralized authority from crushing individual liberty. They fought for a healthy balance; a balance that many Americans have forgotten today.

President Trump has also spoken about the importance of protecting our nation’s foundation. The ongoing debates in Washington show how divided our country has become.

The Loss of Civility in Society

Beyond politics, Justice Thomas expressed deep concern about how Americans treat each other. He noted a growing culture of cynicism, rejection, and hostility in our country. This anger is consuming citizens and changing our way of life.

Thomas remembered a time when the Supreme Court had a different atmosphere. He praised the late Justice Sandra Day O’Connor for building friendships among the justices. They used to eat lunch together and listen to different points of view.

Today’s younger generations live in a completely different world. Social media encourages name-calling and constant accusations. Thomas fears this toxic environment will soon infect the courts and other vital institutions.

When young people cannot handle ideological differences, the entire system suffers. Thomas asked students to think about how they deal with disagreements in college. He wonders how we can bring civility back into our current culture.

This breakdown in respect makes it harder to achieve unity and equal opportunity. When people only yell at each other, real problems go unsolved. We must learn to communicate our guiding truths with grace and love.

A Call for Courage and Action

Justice Thomas did not end his speech on a hopeless note. He issued a powerful call to action for everyone listening. He urged Americans to find the same courage that the signers of the Declaration had.

If we want to save our nation, we cannot sit on the sidelines. Thomas warned that if we do not take ownership of our country, others will control us. We are slowly letting outside forces dictate how we think and live.

It is our country, and we have a responsibility to protect it. You must use your voice to influence policy and defend religious freedom. Stand up for your beliefs, even when it is difficult or unpopular.

Mobilizing people of faith and freedom has never been more important. Influence at a state and local level can change the direction of the nation. We must pray for our leaders and actively participate in the process.

Justice Thomas’s warning should wake us all up. Progressivism poses a real challenge to the values we hold dear. We must reject hostility and embrace the courage of our founding fathers.

Take time to read the Constitution and understand your God-given rights. Talk to your family and friends about the importance of these guiding truths.
