President Trump recently made clear statements regarding the ongoing military and diplomatic situation with Iran. During a recent press event at the White House, he addressed questions about his administration’s nuclear weapons policy. He explicitly ruled out the use of nuclear weapons in the current conflict.

Trump stated that there is no need to deploy nuclear arms against Iran. He noted that the United States military has already decimated its targets using conventional methods. When asked about a potential nuclear strike, he called the question “stupid.”

“No, I wouldn’t use it,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. He added that a nuclear weapon should never be allowed to be used by anybody. This statement clarified his official stance on the nation’s nuclear weapons policy.

The president emphasized that the goal is to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb. He stated that the United States wants to ensure Iran cannot threaten American cities or the Middle East. He confirmed that the military had stopped its strikes early because Iranian leaders wanted peace.

Meanwhile, the United States continues to maintain a strict blockade of Iranian ports. President Trump noted that this blockade is highly effective and has halted regular business operations. The military remains ready to enforce these restrictions while diplomatic efforts continue.

Recent events have highlighted the ongoing tensions on the water. The U.S. military recently seized the cargo ship Tosca for violating the established blockade. Iranian officials have called the blockade an act of war and a violation of the truce.

Despite these maritime conflicts, the administration is focusing on achieving a diplomatic resolution. The president has expressed a willingness to give Iranian leaders time to organize. This has led to critical updates regarding the Trump-Iran ceasefire.

Extending the Trump-Iran Ceasefire

The White House recently announced an extension of the Trump-Iran ceasefire. The original two-week truce was set to expire, which led to heavy speculation about a return to fighting. Trump extended the pause based on requests from international mediators.

Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan formally requested the delay. They asked the United States to hold off on attacks until Iran can present a unified proposal. Trump agreed to extend the ceasefire indefinitely to allow for these discussions.

The president noted that the Iranian government is currently experiencing significant internal divisions. He stated that they do not even know who is leading their country at this moment. This internal turmoil has complicated the ongoing Iran negotiations in Pakistan.

Iranian negotiators are reportedly divided between hardliners and more moderate leaders like President Masoud Pezeshkian. Reaching Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei directly has proven difficult for international diplomats. This leadership structure requires extra time to finalize any potential agreements.

President Trump confirmed that he directed the military to continue the naval blockade during this pause. However, he also ordered them to remain completely ready and able to resume operations if necessary. He previously warned that he would resume bombing if a deal was not reached.

Iranian representatives have indicated they are willing to negotiate if the port blockade is lifted. Amir-Saeid Iravani, Iran’s representative to the United Nations, stated his team is ready for political solutions. However, he also warned that Iran is fully prepared for war if talks fail.

Updates on the Iran Negotiations

The second round of ongoing Iran negotiations was scheduled to take place in Islamabad, Pakistan. However, doubts grew regarding whether the American delegation would make the trip. Vice President JD Vance arrived at the White House instead of boarding his flight.

Special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, were also expected to travel to Pakistan. Instead, they traveled from Miami to the White House for afternoon meetings. The trip was stalled because Iran had not confirmed if it would send its representatives.

Vance, Witkoff, and Kushner previously spent about 21 hours negotiating with Iranian officials in early April. Those initial discussions ended without a finalized deal between the two nations. Following those talks, the administration blockaded the ports to push for core demands.

The primary American demands include ending uranium enrichment and relinquishing near-weapons-grade materials. Trump previously claimed that Iran had agreed to hand over heavily guarded nuclear dust. However, Iranian officials publicly denied making those specific concessions.

Mahdi Mohammadi, an adviser to Iran’s parliament speaker, dismissed the recent ceasefire extension. He suggested that the continued naval siege is no different from an active bombardment. He stated that the siege must be met with a direct military response.

The conflict has now lasted for 53 days, bringing up discussions about the War Powers Resolution. Congress may soon debate war funding as the 60-day mark approaches. The White House maintains that it retains the authority to manage this conflict.
