Angel Studios issued a massive press release Monday featuring what feels like a mountain of new content to get us through the last months of winter.
“We have been hard at work preparing our theatrical and streaming slate for the new year. It’s truly an honor to partner with such outstanding directors, producers, animators and comedians who have inspiring stories and entertainment that amplify light,” says Angel Studios’ Director of Business Affairs and Acquisitions David Fischer in the release. “The Angel Guild is growing at an amazing pace and has approved the following films for distribution on our Angel platforms.”
He’s not wrong. Angel Studios is releasing something new for its rapidly-growing audience almost every day in February. The bonanza starts with a new “Tuttle Twins” episode on Feb. 4 for the kids, followed by “The Last Rifleman” on Feb. 6, which sounds like a real tear-jerker.
“After losing his wife, 92-year-old WWII veteran Artie breaks free from his nursing home to set off on a daring solo journey to Normandy. Driven to honor the past and confront his memories, Artie faces unforeseen difficulties, forges unlikely friendships, and reflects on a lifetime of sacrifice. As he retraces the steps of D-Day, Artie’s resilience and courage shine in this heartfelt story of remembrance and healing,” the release says of the story.
More Movies & Shows
Along with “The Last Rifleman,” Angel Studios is dropping “Faith of Angels,” “The World We Make,” and “Unexplainable,” which will all hit the app before the month is up. “Homestead” and “The Lunatic Farmer” are also available as of right now!
TV shows joining the blossoming network include a heap of new “Dry Bar Comedy Specials.” Jaron Myres hits the app first on Feb. 7 with his special “Joy is Free,” where topics are said to include “funny stories about magical potions, indestructible Waffle Houses, and the greatest airdrop caper of all time.” (POPULAR ARTICLE: Trump Keeps Major Campaign Promises In First Weeks)
Don McMillian’s “I Am An Engineer” comes the following Wednesday, Feb.12, followed by a Valentine’s Day special on Friday Feb. 14. The special is apparently “perfect for date night or singles alike! This collection of comedy sets explores love, dating, and relationships. With witty observations and hilarious takes on romance, these performances provide a lighthearted look at the complexities of human connection.”
If this doesn’t sound like your kind of evening, you can also check out Drew Barth’s “Tried To Hard” Dry Bar Comedy Special, released the same day. “Drew Barth conquers all odds—surviving the pandemic, battling fruit flies, and even getting hit by a truck—to deliver another sensational Dry Bar special.”
Andy Hendrickson rounds out the short month with “Left Field,” a special about “ life, family, and dating with self-deprecating humor and relatable anecdotes.”
Huge Names Lined Up For Easter
While a whole host of new shows and movies are hitting the platform — many not included in the release — the one that stood out to us was the animated Easter Special “King of Kings.” The story was written by Charles Dickens, but published sixty years after his death! “The story follows Dickens, his son Walter, and their cat Willa as they become immersed in the story of Jesus,” the release describes. The cast for “King of Kings” is enormous, including Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Mark Hamill, Roman Griffin Davis, Forest Whitaker, Ben Kingsley and Oscar Isaac. We think that watching this film has potential to become an annual family tradition. Just listen to the extended description:
“A father tells his son the greatest story ever told, and what begins as a bedtime tale becomes a life-changing journey. Through vivid imagination, the boy walks alongside Jesus, witnessing His miracles, facing His trials, and understanding His ultimate sacrifice. The King of Kings invites us to rediscover the enduring power of hope, love, and redemption through the eyes of a child.” The movie drops on April 11.
