Clean Water Mission: EPA Targets PFAS Contamination

A major step was taken to ensure drinking water safety across our nation. The Environmental Protection Agency announced a massive plan to clean up our water supply. This new EPA initiative will spend $1 billion to remove dangerous chemicals from our taps.
President Donald Trump and his administration are making this a top priority. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently shared the details. They want to rid our communities of toxic substances known as PFAS.
These man-made chemicals have been used since the 1940s to make products resistant to heat, oil, and water. Unfortunately, they break down very slowly in the environment. Because of this, they are often called “forever chemicals.”
Over time, PFAS contamination builds up in the soil, the water, and even our bodies. This pollution threatens the health of our families and the beauty of God’s creation. We cannot sit by while our most vital resource is poisoned.
Research links these chemicals to serious health risks, including certain types of cancer. Protecting our children from these toxins is a moral duty. This is why the new EPA initiative is so important for our future.
The government is offering nearly $1 billion in grants to help states clean up their water. We must speak up and ensure these funds reach the communities that need them most. Learn more about the grant funding.
Protecting Our Families and Communities
The Safe Drinking Water Act is the law that keeps our water clean. The Trump administration is working to make sure water systems follow this law properly. They want rules that are based on solid science and practical solutions.
Administrator Zeldin noted that local ratepayers should not carry the high cost of cleaning up this mess. The federal government is stepping in to help water systems pay for the necessary technology. This approach protects our wallets while improving drinking water safety.
Under the new plan, public water systems must meet strict federal limits for these chemicals. However, eligible systems can apply for more time to meet these goals. They can ask for an extension until 2031 to install the right treatment systems.
This extra time allows for better planning and testing of new technologies. It also gives time for the cost of PFAS removal tools to drop. Systems that do not ask for an extension must comply with the original 2029 deadline.
We must hold polluters accountable for the damage they cause to the environment. The EPA is taking steps to stop PFAS contamination at the source. They want to keep these chemicals out of our rivers and lakes in the first place.
By stopping the pollution before it starts, we protect the natural world God gave us. Industrial facilities will face stricter limits on what they can dump into our waterways. This prevents the problem from getting worse while we clean up the existing mess.
Stewarding God’s Creation Together
The EPA is also looking at how to destroy these forever chemicals permanently. They are testing advanced methods to pull PFAS out of the water completely. Technologies like reverse osmosis and high-pressure membranes are showing great promise in the field.
For example, new treatment systems in Southern California are already protecting thousands of households. The agency is constantly updating its guidance to give local utilities the best tools available. This ensures that drinking water safety remains a top priority across the country.
As Christians, we know that actions speak louder than words. We must advocate for policies that honor God’s design and protect human life. Supporting efforts to end PFAS contamination is a clear way to show we care.
Secretary Kennedy emphasized that this public health challenge demands rigorous science and clear standards. The Department of Health and Human Services is researching how these chemicals affect our bodies long-term. They are working together with the EPA to Make America Healthy Again.
This $1 billion investment is part of a much larger $5 billion program over five years. It targets small and disadvantaged communities that often get left behind. We must pray for our leaders as they make decisions about these vital resources.
Engaging in our political process should be clear, meaningful, and effective—but too often, people feel overlooked or unsure how to make an impact. That’s where we come in.
Million Voices equips citizens with tools that inform, inspire, and activate. Through our MVP Program, we help get voter resources into the hands of people who don’t typically vote—encouraging greater participation where it matters most.
We also offer devotions and opportunities for prayer, connecting faith with action. Through our Write Now Campaign, volunteers send letters to low-propensity voters in key areas, helping inspire them to engage and make their voices heard.
