Serious concerns are being raised by law enforcement and national security officials over heightened terror threats to the United States, particularly due to the nation’s open southern border. FBI Director Christopher Wray and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have testified that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has escalated the terrorism threat level. Wray has warned of potential attacks on American soil by Hamas or other foreign terrorist organizations, and he notes the possibility of these groups exploiting the current conflict.
Conservatives are cautioning that the open southern border under President Biden’s administration leaves the U.S. unduly vulnerable to terrorism. Senator Rick Scott has voiced concerns over the threat of attacks similar to Hamas’s recent assault on Israel, with the open border contributing to issues such as the rise in fentanyl overdose deaths. Scott cites data indicating a record number of illegal border crossings, with many coming from conflict-ridden regions such as Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.
Former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, are also raising the alarm. DeSantis predicts a future terrorist attack traceable to the southern border, while Trump has raised concerns over potential infiltrations by the same groups that attacked Israel. Republicans are calling for the strengthening of border security measures to protect Americans from these imminent threats. These warnings are further amplified by the opposition to importing Palestinian refugees, citing potential terrorist threats.
What will it take to close our southern border and prioritize homeland security? Another 9/11? No one in the Biden Administration is taking responsibility for the security of American citizens.
