Democrat Joe Manchin Retires, Opening Opportunities For GOP In Senate

West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin announced Thursday that he will not be seeking reelection in 2024.

“I have made one of the toughest decisions of my life and decided that I will not be running for reelection to the United States Senate,” said Manchin in a video shared on social media. “I believe in my heart of hearts that I have accomplished what I set out to do for West Virginia.” Manchin is often referred to as a “pro-life Democrat,” and presided over the state’s sharp turn to Republican politics, the Washington Stand noted.”

“When America’s at her best, we get things done by putting country before party, working across the aisle, and finding common ground” he continued. “Many times, this approach has landed me in hot water.
