Editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, a news and commentary outlet, Jeffrey Goldberg, was accidentally added to a Trump administration chat on the Signal app in March, revealing extremely sensitive military operational information to a notable member of the press, according to The Hill.

Members of the Trump administration, including Defense Sec. Pete Hegseth, Vice President J.D. Vance, and more, used a Signal group — a private messaging app — to discuss a Yemen-based operation to target Houthi terrorists in the region. Somehow, Goldberg was added to the chat, and privy to the play-by-play details of highly sensitive military operation.

Goldberg then wrote about the Signal chat after the operation was successfully completed, revealing all of the information to the general public. During his first report, Goldberg did not release the most sensitive details. (MORE NEWS: UK Moves Further From Christ As School Cancels Easter Service)

Reactions To The Situation

Upon realizing the massive mistake and potentially devastated security breach, those involved immediately took responsibility for their actions, according to the Guardian.

National Security advisor Mike Waltz, who initiated the chat, called the situation “embarrassing” and took ownership of the error. Though it had no impact on the military side of the issue, many Americans are concerned about the potential risk for domestic safety and the lives of those protecting America from abroad, the BBC noted.

Aside from shock and initial fear, some are also happy that Trump and his team didn’t shy away from taking ownership of the mistake. Independent journalist Chrissy Clark pointed out that it was also refreshing to see that the way these cabinet members talk in public is the same as in private.
