FBI director Christopher Wray said Sunday that there is a rising threat of terrorist attacks in the U.S. since Hamas attacked Israel in early October.
“The threat is very much ongoing and in fact, the threat picture continues to evolve,” Wray said. “Here in the U.S., we cannot and do not discount the possibility that Hamas or other foreign terrorist organizations could exploit the conflict to call on their supporters to conduct attacks on our own soil,” Wray told CBS News.
Reported threats towards Jews, Muslims, places of worship and other religious institutions have all heightened in the last week or so. And the FBI is “moving quickly to mitigate” any potential action from these threats, as well as the threats themselves.
Terror Cells Within The US
Experts told CBN News that Hamas and Hezbollah sleeper cells operate within the U.S. Studies have also found most Hezbollah activity is in Michigan, North Carolina, New York, and California.
“We have over a thousand joint terrorism task force cases going on here in America today relating to Muslim extremists.” former FBI special agent and now-counter terrorism consultant Eric Caron told the outlet. “The idea that they don’t want to attack us again like a 9-11, but even bigger is foolish. They want to attack us. They want to destroy America.”
