Federal Court Delivers Huge Victory For Parental Rights

A federal trial court delivered a victory for parental rights against “radical LGBT activists’ efforts” to “indoctrinate other people’s children,” Blaze Media reported Friday (Oct. 11).

Three mothers – a Catholic, a Mormon, and nonreligious woman – filed a lawsuit against first-grade Pennsylvania teacher Megan Williams, Jefferson Elementary school, and the Mt. Lebanon School District, and other related officials, after they discovered Williams was pushing transgender ideologies within her classroom, the outlet reported. “Williams compelled her young students to “observe” so-called Transgender Awareness Day — subjecting 6- and 7-year-old kids to non-curricular propaganda about “gender identity” and sex changes,” the outlet reported. 

Williams is also said to have told her students that their “parents ma[d]e a guess whether they’re a boy or a girl” and may have been incorrect. The Lawsuit

The three mothers filed the suit with support of Alliance Defending Freedom. They sought a moratorium “on gender dysphoria and transgender transitioning” instruction in the classroom, as well as “parental notice and opt-out rights on the topic absent such a prohibition; compensatory damages; and punitive damages.”

The complaint reads: “parents have a Constitutionally protected liberty interest in the care, custody, and control of their children, including their education.” The right of parents “to direct the upbringing and education of children under their control” was upheld by U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania’s judge Joy Conti. “The students’ confusion in this case illustrates how difficult it is for a first-grader when a teacher’s instruction conflicts with their Parents’ religious and moral beliefs,” Conti wrote in her ruling. “The heart of parental authority on matters of the greatest importance within their own family is undermined when a teacher tells first-graders their parents may be wrong about whether the student is a boy or a girl.”
