Focus on the Fruits! KINDNESS
“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8).
Most of us have encountered someone on social media who is “not so social.” They don’t relate well with others and seem to have strong opinions on EVERYTHING! The first human instinct is to engage with them, but that can lead to nowhere fast. What is the role of Christians in this new generation of technology and emotionally driven communication?
God’s word is the same yesterday, today, and forever. While times have changed, we have always been called to be kind, no matter the circumstances. In an age of technology and social media in particular, it is easy to forget we are communicating with another person. This can sometimes lead us to speak with less tenderness or compassion than we would if we were speaking in person. “Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing” (1 Peter 3:9). We are ALL loved by God.
When we choose to exhibit kindness, it leaves little room for negative feelings. God can work through us to share Jesus with the lost and broken. Kindness is a universal language and most people will respond well to it!
Guiding Points:
Call to Action: How can we show God’s love and kindness to a broken world? We never really know other peoples’ stories or the emotional burdens they carry. Kindness is taken to heart and breaks down barriers. Keep this in mind when communicating with people on social media, and whenever possible, enjoy the wonderful opportunity to talk over coffee!
“Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them…be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. (Ephesians 4:29, 32).
“Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires” (James 1:19-20).
“Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing” (Proverbs 12:18)
Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, we praise you today for all You have done for us! Help us be good to each other and show people the same kindness You offer us. Remind us that we are all human and that Jesus died on the cross for each one of us. Please allow us the opportunity to share the story of Easter with people in our circle of influence. In Your name, we pray, Amen!
Final Thought: Our words and actions are a reflection of God. Kindness is ALWAYS the best answer.
