Gen Z Support For Same-Sex Marriage Falls

A new poll conducted by the American Enterprise Institute’s Survey Center on American Life found Gen Z’s support for same-sex marriage dropped more than any other age demographic.
The survey found Gen Z only supports same-sex marriage by a 69 percent margin, but ” [a]s recently as 2021, eight in 10 (80 percent) Gen Z adults reported supporting same-sex marriage,” the poll states. “There is no evidence of a similar drop among any other generation.” Gen Z are the kids born from 1997 to around 2012.
Gen Z’s support for same-sex marriage is around the same as Baby Boomers. Millennials support same-sex marriage at a rate of around 73%. (LEARN MORE: Study Proves We’re In Our Next Great Awakening)
Not What You Think
Gen Z does not reject homosexuality, according to the Washington Stand. Younger Americans are actually more likely to say they identify as anything but heterosexual, the outlet noted.
“There is really no way to tell from these data why their support has declined,” Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, founder and president of The Ruth Institute, told The Washington Stand. “It is possible that this is not uniquely about declining support for same-sex marriage: It could just be declining support for marriage itself. No firm conclusions are possible, based on what we see here.”
