Global Stock Markets Plummet Amid Political Confusion

The Dow opened more than 1,000 points lower while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq dropped significantly Monday morning after the Japanese stock market experienced its biggest loss since 1987.

Concerns of a serious downturn in the U.S. economy heightened again Monday, despite all three of our market indexes recovering slightly during morning trading, according to CNN. Lows continued throughout the day on Monday. Higbie explained that after the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, companies like Caterpillar, Nucor, Steel Dynamics and others acted on the almost certainty that Trump would be reelected. Things were looking good for American businesses and the American people.

Markets Respond To Behavior

Higbie said these companies were operating under the presumption they would not be punished by tariffs. Therefore, they shot up in value. Even after Biden stepped down and Harris was made the de facto nominee without any of the American people’s input, things seemed okay because Trump was still almost certain to get reelected. This is when Harris and her campaign “went to their allies in the media, they had a bunch of polls done” that looked favorable to Harris, and pushed the data to imply Harris was a real contender for the presidency.

“And what happened? Markets reacted again,” Higbie continued. “Suddenly, those same people, they pulled back – who invested all that money in those domestic companies – and said, ‘whoa, maybe we should be so convinced about Trump running, which I think they’re wrong about.” This led to the “boom” and the markets we see today. Impact On Households

Higbie stated that as the stock market moves through this period of turmoil and confusion, the cost will be passed on to the American consumer (ie: you). Most of the cost comes down to where your pensions are held and securing as much of that capital as possible. As the market explicitly dictates your financial future, whether you play in it or not, a failing market means you’ll have to work later into your life for less value for money.
