God’s Shining Face: The Profound Impact on Our Lives
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you, the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24- 26).
The scripture mentions the Lord, “shining His shining face” on his people in multiple places in the text. This is a metaphor for God’s deep love and nearness. When His face shines on us, it brings forth salvation and blessings. It touches our minds and hearts with the unshakeable conviction that we are His beloved children living in His radiant love.
In Psalm 80:3, Asaph, the psalmist, cries out to God, begging Him to intervene in the turmoil of the Israelites. He refers to God as the ‘Shepherd of Israel’ – a profound illustration of God’s guiding and protective role. Throughout the Psalm, there’s a recurring plea: “Cause your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved.” This is an appeal for God’s favor, asking Him to be present, bestowing His guidance and grace. When we turn away from sin, God answers by “shining His face,” leading us toward genuine revival and spiritual reawakening.
