GOP Rep. Says Crypto Is Coming After 2024

House Majority Whip, Minnesota Republican Rep. Tom Emmer said Wednesday that he “couldn’t be more excited about” how crypto is “shaping up” ahead of the 2024 election.

“I think people are going to recognize after this election is over, that the time has come,” Emmer told Semafor in an interview published in June. “And under the next administration, I think you’ll see some actual crypto-friendly, stablecoin-friendly, digital asset-friendly laws being put on the books.” (LEARN MORE: Cost Of Living Crisis Causing Baby Delay)

His statements come as former President Donald Trump starts accepting campaign donations in the form of digital cryptocurrencies. “If you like crypto in any form, and it comes in a lot of different forms, you better vote for Trump,” he told a group of supporters in March.

People Need ‘Leadership’

Emmer believes that Trump “recognizes that people want leadership on this issue, and he is stepping into it in a big way.” He further argued that Republicans are poised to win a “‘huge group’ of 18-to-40-year-old single-issue crypto voters who ‘do not trust people in Washington, D.C. who are trying to tell them what they can and can’t do’ with their money,” the outlet wrote. “You need to give [former GOP candidate] Vivek Ramaswamy some credit for bringing out this whole new young electorate that were very excited about his knowledge of the digital asset space,” he added. Lawmakers like Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Securities and Exchange Commission chair Gary Gensler “have completely messed” crypto up for their party by trying to stiffen regulations.
