Has MAHA Made A Difference? The Answer May Surprise You

Health and Human Services Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s movement to “Make America Healthy Again” may not be grabbing headlines, but it is certainly making changes to the way Americans are eating already!

Kennedy is the king of MAHA, there is no doubt about it. He eats, sleeps, breathes health, but there were concerns he’d be stifled into silence once President Donald Trump entered office. The absolute opposite has happened, with MAHA already targeting major issues, such as the cause of childhood autism, removing additives from food, and seemingly migrating both public and private sector thinking in a similar direction, according to CBN.

Kennedy announced in April that he intended to determine the cause of the massive spike in childhood autism by September 2025, Newsmax reported. “There’s got to be something artificial out there that’s doing this,” Trump told Kennedy during a televised Cabinet meeting on the issue. “If you can come up with that answer, where you stop taking something, eating something, or maybe it’s a shot. But something’s causing it.”

Beating Up Big Food

Kennedy met with the heads of major food companies in March to explain that food dyes will be phased out by the end of his term in office, CBN noted. Unfortunately many people who work in the highest rankings of Big Food pushed back on Kennedy’s demands, saying that the industry relies on “cheap, vibrant dyes to maintain product appeal and affordability.” It is unclear at this time whether these companies care, at all, about the potential impact these “cheap, vibrant” chemicals on the health of men, women, and children. “In 1958, the government created a designation called Generally Recognized as Safe or GRAS [Generally Recognized as Safe] so that we can make common ingredients like salt and baking soda exempt from testing,” Kennedy explained. “But today it isn’t just salt and baking soda. Food companies and cooperative regulators have enlarged the GRAS exemption so that these companies can decide for themselves whether a substance is Generally Recognized as Safe. No FDA approval is needed.”

Kennedy’s social influence over food and physical health is already having significant impacts in private business. Steak ‘n Shake will be cooking its fries in beef tallow. American baby formula standards are also being updated to remove things like seed oils, high fructose corn syrup, and other potentially dangerous “ingredients” for babies.

Experts Champion Change

Operation World Without Cancer founder John Richardson told CBN that, as a “person that believes that this immune system that God made for us is amazing,” he is thrilled about the changes Kennedy is making. “They got rid of the WHO (World Health Organization) and they started the Global Wellness Forum,” Richardson noted. “A very close friend of mine, Dr. Ed Group, is one of the people behind that. Marla Maples is on that team and it’s all about us bringing God-given, natural, not pharmaceutical, not patented drugs, to the forefront so that people can know we can heal so many of our problems including our poor nutrition by just bringing us back to a diet based on things that are natural and God-given.”

While there are many critics of Kennedy’s work, epidemiologist and health advisor to the first Trump administration Katy Talento, believes that he will be able to work with the “career civil servants” at HHS. “I think they can be inspired by Secretary Kennedy’s agenda as long as he sticks to the science and really respects some of their institutional knowledge about how to get these things done and what authorities they have,” she told the outlet.

What’s Next?

Talento believes some of the next moves from Kennedy will involve updates to dietary standards and guidelines, as well as addressing the childhood vaccine schedule. There are also hopes he’ll look at how various agencies got so much wrong during the COVID-19 pandemic. Chronic illness, the importance of biological sex, and life beginning at conception are all topics Kennedy has referenced recently, so we’ll watch this space to see what happens next.
