IRS Contractor Admits To Leaking Trump’s Tax Records, Along With Thousands Of Others

An Internal Revenue Service (IRS) contractor pled guilty Thursday to illegally disclosing the tax returns of Former President Donald Trump, along with records belonging to thousands of other individuals.

IRS consultant Charles Littlejohn, 38, of Washington D.C., was charged with a single count of the unauthorized disclosure of tax returns and return information in September, according to the Federalist. Littlejohn was accused by federal prosecutors of stealing tax information and leaking it to a news organization. These were later revealed to be Trump and the New York Times.

Littlejohn leaked the information just weeks before the 2020 presidential election.

Betraying Public Trust

“By using his role as a government contractor to gain access to private tax information, steal that information, and disclose it publicly, Charles Littlejohn broke federal law and betrayed the public’s trust,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement, the Federalist noted. “In every case, the Department of Justice is committed to following the facts wherever they lead and holding accountable those who violate our laws.”
