Josiah’s Flame of Spiritual Reformation

Oct 15, 2023

“He did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight and followed the example of his ancestor David. He did not turn away from doing what was right” (Kings 22:2).

Josiah, King of Judah, was only eight when he ascended to the throne. At 16, he experienced a personal transformation, embarking on a mission to cleanse the land of idolatry and initiate a national renewal focused on God. He renovated the Temple in Jerusalem, uncovered the Book of Law, renewed the covenant to follow God, and reinstated the observance of Passover. “Never before had there been a king like Josiah, who turned to the Lord with all his heart, soul, and strength, obeying all the laws of Moses. And there has never been a king like him since” (2 Kings 23:25).

Josiah dedicated his life to church reform. He was young and an unlikely person to be chosen by God. Yet, God used him to make a lasting mark on the landscape of Israel’s religious foundation.

Spiritual reformation begins in each one of us. Christ died for us, and we are called to salvation through Him. We are to be ALIVE in Him—to celebrate His goodness, spread His Word, and glorify our Savior. It is never too early or too late in life to stand for Jesus.

Your Call to Action

History is filled with the extraordinary feats of the unlikely, the young, the underestimated. Nothing should stop you from pursuing your call. Take up the mantle of spiritual revolution, and let the love of Christ transform your life and those around you.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden… In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).

“Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you” (Ephesians 5:14).

Prayer

Lord, we praise Your holy name! You are Almighty God and the author of our lives. We choose You. We stand for You. We love You. We ask that You fill us with Your glory and help us to be reformed and renewed in You. In Your name, we pray, Amen.

A Comforting Closure

Like Josiah, no matter how small or insignificant you feel, you can make a seismic spiritual shift in your world for the Kingdom of God!
