Leaning on God Through Adversity

Jun 11, 2024

As believers, we face an inner battle between the person we once were and the new creation we have become by accepting Jesus. Our old, sinful nature may attempt to resurface, especially when we encounter pressure and challenging moments.

Much like someone trying to lose weight or quit drinking for their health, at the first sign of struggle, they quit and revert to their unhealthy habits of eating or drinking through pain or discomfort. Only the most dedicated individuals push through with determination, trusting the process.

Christianity is very similar. When we experience adversity, God calls on us to persevere. Instead of giving up, we keep going and trust in God. We read the Bible, seeking guidance in its pages. We stay in prayer and have faith in God’s plan. We are obedient, knowing that God’s grace is sufficient. When we feel defeated and depleted of strength, we can be assured that He will empower us to press on.

Your Call to Action

When life deals you a difficult hand, stay close to God. Lean on Him and know He is your strong tower of hope and love. He knew you in your mother’s womb, and He sent His One and only Son to save you. Never forget you are a child of the King!

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up” (Hebrews 12:1-3).

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds” (James 1:2).

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful” (Joshua 1:9).

Prayer

Father God, we love You and appreciate all You do for us! Help us trust You and lean on You for strength. You are enough! Let us be empowered by Your word and committed to pushing through our challenges. Give us peace on our journey with You. In Your precious name, we pray, Amen!

A Comforting Closure

We are conquerors in Christ and will not just endure but prevail through Him.
