Marriages in the U.S. have seen a significant rebound in 2024 after slowing throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Across the nation, 36 states and the District of Columbia reported marriage rates in 2022 that either matched or exceeded the levels seen in 2019, before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic,” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s public affairs specialist Brian Tsai wrote in a blog post in March.

States with the highest number of marriages included Nevada, Hawaii, Montana, Utah, and Arkansas, the report noted. The District of Columbia also had a very high marriage rate. These states are where the marriages were performed, not necessarily where the happy new couples plan to live full-time.
