Not Just Sunday: Inviting God into Your Daily Life

“The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth” (Psalm 145:18).

Maybe we’ve got the Sunday part down: We go to church, listen to the music and the sermon, nod, clap, and pray. We may serve in a church ministry. We enjoy visiting with friends and making new ones after church before heading home.

Inevitably, Monday morning rolls around, and the stress of the week can feel heavy around us – getting kids to school and extracurricular activities, having meetings at work, or dreading quickly-approaching deadlines. Before we know it, it’s Sunday again, and we’ve had no time to rest in God’s promises. Rinse and repeat.

We don’t want to miss a day of God’s presence and blessings in our lives, but it is so easy to become distracted and forget to invite Him in. We may not be sure about giving God access to certain areas for fear of relinquishing control. Or we may feel incapable of living within God’s will. The reasons are different for each of us, but one thing is sure: It has never been about what we can do or what we’ve done (or haven’t done!). It is about what Christ has done for us! Understanding God’s sacrifice for us, His plans for us, and His desire to use us to accomplish His purposes are powerful motivations to invite Him into every aspect of our daily lives.

John 15:5 says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” When we surrender everything to Him—even the little things we believe are unimportant—He produces fruit in our lives. Let’s invite Him into the everyday details! Giving everything to God shows Him we have faith in Him and frees us from the pressure of handling it alone! Letting go is difficult, but the progress and growth that comes from it are worth it!

Guiding Points:

Call to Action: Can we allow God access to additional areas of our lives? Commit to daily prayer and reading His Word—it will strengthen your connection with God and bring peace to your progress!

“Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:2).

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you” (James 4:8).

Prayer: Father God, we praise Your name today and are so honored to be in Your presence! We come before You to ask for guidance. We want to invite You into every aspect of our lives. We surrender everything to You and have faith that You will help us handle it all! Please help us grow into better stewards of our time and priorities. We thank You, Lord, for Your steadfast love for us! In Your name, we pray, Amen!

Final Thought: “’Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light’” (Matthew 11:28-30). Be set free by drawing near to Him and inviting Him into your world. Let Him carry your burdens, and He will meet every need of your heart!
