Outgoing Rep. Introduces National Pro-Life Protections

Republican Virginia Rep. Bob Good introduced H.R. 8855, dubbed “The Life Act,” in late June, which would stop American taxpayers from funding abortions.

The bill would bar any and all medical practitioners who receive federal funding from performing abortions to women, except in cases of miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy treatment, according to the Washington Stand. “The bill would apply to all medical personnel who accept funds from Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Indian Health Service (IHS), Veterans Health Administration (VA), TRICARE, or Title X. It would also prevent federal health insurance plans from funding abortion, including those under the Affordable Care Act, the Employee Retirement and Income Security Act (ERISA), and insurance for federal government employees,” the outlet noted in their analysis.

What Would Happen If This Bill Passes?

If the bill passes, abortions would significant reduce throughout the U.S., experts suggest. The numbers suggest 78% of all OB-GYNs accept Medicaid. These individuals would no longer be able to receive funding while they choose to end the lives of the unborn.

“Thankfully, the Dobbs decision did overturn Roe. … In a post-Roe America, Congress must legislate to protect life,” Good told the outlet. “It is our duty to follow the science that life begins at conception and end abortion, so that every American has the chance to live.” (LEARN MORE: Life Wins Big In Federal Court Against Biden)

“We celebrate President Trump appointing conservative justices to the court who would give us that decision. We commend the courage of those justices in the face of threats and harassment and intimidation,” Good said at an earlier event in June. “They held strong, and they rendered the right decision that the Constitution does not guarantee the right to abortion but enables the people’s representatives to stand up for life and to protect it in the womb.”
