Planned Parenthood To Face Trial Over Medicaid Health Fraud

U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk of Amarillo, Texas, ordered Planned Parenthood to trial over a $1.8 billion lawsuit filed by the state, accusing the organization of defrauding Texas’s Medicaid health insurance program, CBN reported.
The lawsuit could easily bankrupt Planned Parenthood, which stands accused of billing “the state for health services administered during a period when the organization was fighting an attempt by Texas to cut it off from the state’s Medicaid funds.” Though the judge did not rule on the case, he ordered it to be sent to trial in April 2024.
But Kacsmaryk did rule against Planned Parenthood in one key issue: the organization must return some funds to Texas and Louisiana, the latter of which did not join the case.
Planned Parenthood Responds
“Not satisfied with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, politicians are targeting ALL sexual & reproductive health care. Planned Parenthood will be ready at trial — Texans’ access to care is on the line,” Planned Parenthood President and CEO Alexis McGill Johnson said on X.
But this is an ideological argument, not a legal one. It’s unclear how much Planned Parenthood will have to pay each state. Texas has stated it is only seeking repayment for services billed during the time in question.
