Pritzker’s “Book Ban” Meltdown Targets the Right

When Libs of TikTok posted a video of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker railing against conservatives for “banning books,” it wasn’t just another culture-war soundbite. It was a glimpse into how deeply Democratic leaders have confused moral boundaries with oppression. In the clip, Pritzker lashes out over plans to overhaul the U.S. Department of Education under President Trump, accusing conservatives of threatening “freedom” by daring to challenge sexually explicit materials in schools. 

The irony is staggering. A governor who once signed a law conditioning Illinois library funding on compliance with the American Library Association’s “Library Bill of Rights” which forbids removing books for “partisan or doctrinal disapproval,” now claims that parents and educators trying to protect children are the problem. It’s not a new stance, but it’s a revealing one. Pritzker’s fury over conservatives simply underscored the left’s obsession with defending explicit content, no matter how inappropriate it may be for minors. 

Defending Porn in the Name of “Freedom” 

The debate over “book bans” is intentionally misleading. Most parents aren’t calling to outlaw To Kill a Mockingbird or Of Mice and Men. They’re objecting to books that contain detailed sexual acts, pornographic illustrations, and themes that no school-aged child should be exposed to. Yet Pritzker and his allies frame this parental concern as censorship, implying that removing pornography from a library is equivalent to burning classics in the town square. 

The Heritage Foundation dismantles that narrative clearly: “Parents are not book banners when they object to sexually explicit content being made available to their children in taxpayer-funded schools.” The left’s rhetorical sleight of hand is the real danger here. By labeling all objections as “bans,” they grant moral cover to the inclusion of graphic material that undermines both innocence and trust in public education. 

Illinois Public Radio reports that Pritzker’s law effectively punishes libraries that refuse to comply. A local school or public library can lose funding if it removes or restricts books based on “doctrinal disapproval.” That means a principal who shelves an explicit book could face consequences for showing basic prudence. This is not freedom; it is coercion disguised as virtue. 

When “Inclusion” Becomes Indoctrination 

Libs of TikTok has long been criticized by mainstream media for posting examples of inappropriate material in schools, but its latest spotlight on Pritzker struck a nerve because it shows how normalized this content has become. Videos and posts exposing sexually charged books and curricula routinely go viral, only to be dismissed by progressives as “fearmongering.” Yet the material itself is what’s alarming. 

J.D. Haltigan, writing  in “The Caricature of Love”, describes how society has replaced genuine affection with distorted portrayals of lust and identity. The same distortion now appears in children’s literature, books marketed as “inclusive” that in reality sexualize curiosity and blur moral boundaries. What used to be unthinkable for a classroom is now protected under the banner of diversity. 

When a sitting governor loses composure at the thought of conservatives reclaiming oversight of the Department of Education, it’s telling. This isn’t outrage in defense of education; it’s outrage to protect a worldview that seeks to rewrite moral truth. Parents are being told, in effect, to step aside while government institutions raise their children. 

The Church Must Reclaim the Standard 

Christians can’t meet this moment with silence. Scripture commands believers to “train up a child in the way he should go” (Proverbs 22:6), and that includes standing against a system intent on erasing innocence. If state leaders will not draw moral lines, the church must. 

That begins locally: pastors speaking from the pulpit about what’s at stake, Christian schools auditing their libraries, and parents organizing at school board meetings to demand accountability. Churches should partner with faith-minded educators to develop wholesome content policies, filtering materials that contradict biblical morality while championing literature that uplifts truth, beauty, and virtue. 

The goal isn’t censorship; it’s stewardship. There is no freedom without wisdom, and no education without morality. As The Heritage Foundation rightly argues, protecting children from graphic sexual material is an act of care, not control. 

A Call to Courage 

Governor Pritzker’s angry remarks prove what Libs of TikTok, and conservatives largely, have been exposing for years: the progressive establishment will defend obscenity under the guise of liberty. They will mock parents who object and vilify Christians who uphold standards. But this is precisely why the church must respond with both truth and conviction. 

The issue is not whether children should read, it’s what they should read. There’s a world of difference between banning knowledge and guarding purity. When leaders treat pornography as literature, it’s time for believers to remind them that virtue is not a threat to freedom, it is its foundation. 

If we allow political figures to redefine morality while hiding behind words like “inclusion” and “freedom,” then liberty itself will lose meaning. The Libs of TikTok video may have been short, but its implications are massive: America’s moral line is being redrawn in front of our eyes. And it’s time the church picked up the pen.
