Pro-Lifers Push to Keep Planned Parenthood Defunded

Pro-life Americans took to the streets this past weekend with a clear and urgent message. They are calling on Congress to protect taxpayers from funding the nation’s largest abortion provider.
The push comes at a critical moment. A key provision that stripped federal dollars from Planned Parenthood is set to expire in just days, and believers across the country are praying it will be saved.
A Nationwide Day of Action
On Saturday, June 27, pro-life groups and families gathered for a coordinated effort known as “Defund Day.” The demonstrations took place at locations across several states, including California, Florida, Texas, Michigan, and New Mexico.
The rallies were organized by Live Action and a coalition of other pro-life organizations. They were held outside Planned Parenthood facilities to send a direct message to lawmakers in Washington.
Live Action founder Lila Rose spoke at the main event in Orange County, California. The goal was simple but powerful: unite pro-life Americans in one voice and amplify that message online for the whole nation to hear.
For those who could not attend in person, organizers offered another way to help. Supporters were encouraged to serve as digital ambassadors, spreading the message across social media to reach even more people.
This kind of grassroots action reflects a deep biblical conviction. Scripture calls us to defend the weak and speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. The unborn are among the most vulnerable members of our human family.
Why the July 5 Deadline Matters
The timing of these rallies is no accident. The reason for the urgency goes back to a major victory pro-life Americans celebrated last year.
On July 4, 2025, President Trump signed his major tax and spending law, often called the Big Beautiful Bill. That law included a provision that stripped federal Medicaid dollars from abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood for one full year.
That one-year clock is now almost up. The defunding is set to expire on July 5 unless Congress acts to extend it, which would once again open the door to taxpayer money flowing to abortion providers.
For pro-life families, this is unacceptable. Many Americans of faith believe their hard-earned tax dollars should never be used to end innocent lives. Defunding is a matter of conscience and stewardship, not just politics.
The fight to keep these funds away from Planned Parenthood is about honoring life at every stage. It is also about respecting the millions of citizens who object to abortion on moral and religious grounds.
The Growing Battle Over Abortion Pills
The defunding fight is only one front in a larger struggle. Four years after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, pro-life leaders warn that abortion has not slowed the way many had hoped.
The reason is the rapid spread of mail-order abortion pills. These drugs now make up a large share of abortions and have made many state protections hard to enforce.
Pro-life advocates point out that these pills are not only deadly for unborn children. They also carry real health risks for women, who often take them at home without proper medical care or follow-up.
This has created tension between pro-life groups and federal agencies. Many leaders are urging the government to restore the safety rules that were in place before they were loosened in recent years.
Recently, a coalition of pro-life groups sent a letter to the acting attorney general. More than 80 organizations asked the Justice Department to act quickly to get dangerous abortion drugs out of the mail while a safety review is completed.
Their message reflects a heart for both mothers and babies. True compassion means protecting women from harm while also defending the precious lives of their unborn children.
A Calling to Stand for Life
For people of faith, these battles are about far more than headlines or court cases. They touch the very heart of what it means to love our neighbor.
Every human life is made in the image of God. That truth does not change based on age, size, or stage of development. It applies to the tiniest child in the womb just as much as anyone else.
Standing for life does not mean condemning those who are hurting. Many women facing unexpected pregnancies feel scared and alone, and the church is called to walk beside them with love and real support.
This is why pregnancy resource centers and faith-based ministries matter so much. They offer hope, practical help, and a reminder that no woman has to face a difficult season by herself.
The next generation is watching how we respond in moments like this. Children learn what we truly value by seeing where we take our stand and how we treat the most vulnerable among us.
When believers rally, pray, and speak up, they model courage and conviction. They show young people that some truths are worth defending, even when the culture pushes back.
The coming days will be important ones for the pro-life movement. Congress faces a clear choice about whether to keep taxpayer dollars away from abortion providers.
Now is the time for Americans of faith to stay engaged and lift their voices. Through prayer, action, and steady love, they can continue building a culture that welcomes and protects every life.
As believers, we are called to pray for our leaders and our nation. Pray for wisdom for those making these decisions, and for safety and dignity for all people affected by them.
That’s where we come in.
Prayer is at the heart of how Million Voices connects faith with civic life. Our Prayer Guide: Pray for Our Government Officials By Name is a free resource designed to help individuals, families, and small groups lift up the men and women who serve in public office—across every level of government and regardless of party.
Rooted in the scriptural call to pray “for kings and all those in authority” (1 Timothy 2:1–2), the guide offers a thoughtful framework for interceding on behalf of our leaders: for wisdom in their decisions, integrity in their conduct, protection for them and their families, and a heart for serving the common good.
Whether you’re looking to deepen your personal prayer life or to gather others in praying for our nation, this guide is a meaningful place to start. Download it here: https://millionvoices.org/mv-prayer-guide-pray-for-government-officials/
We also offer an opportunity to connect faith with action. Through our Write Now Campaign, volunteers send letters to low-propensity voters in key areas, helping inspire them to engage and make their voices heard.
