Theology lecturer Aaron Edwards, 37, was fired from his job at Cliff College, Derbyshire, England, in March for a tweet he posted regarding sexuality, the Christian Post reported.
The Methodist Bible College dismissed Edwards after he wrote on X: “Homosexuality is invading the Church. Evangelicals no longer see the severity of this b/c they’re busy apologizing for their apparently barbaric homophobia, whether or not it’s true. This is a ‘Gospel issue,’ by the way. If sin is no longer sin, we no longer need a Savior.”
Edwards received a torrent of abuse following the tweet. He was also threatened with being reported to Prevent, a counter-terrorism program, during the college’s investigation into the harmless tweet. (LEARN MORE: Are We In The 3rd Great Awakening?)
Academic, Christian, And Speech Freedoms Limited In England
“Anyone concerned about academic freedom, Christian freedoms, and free speech should be deeply concerned by what has happened to me,” Edwards said when launching his legal claim against the institution. (LEARN MORE: Church Leader Acquitted Over ‘Hate Speech’)
His team is planning to argue in Edwards’ defense under the European Convention of Human Rights, which they believe was violated by the institution.
Protect Your Religious Freedoms In America
You can protect your religious freedoms today. And we’ll do all the work for you. All you have to do is sign up at www.millionvoices.org, and we’ll contact your local, state, and federally elected officials to tell them how important religious freedoms are to your vote.
You can also tell them how important anti-hate crime laws are against Christians. You deserve protection from hate as much as anyone else. You don’t deserve to be a victim of violence from hatred, nor from silencing from your government, just because of your peaceful, Christian values.
