Nine different Republicans have raised their hands for consideration as the new House Speaker after two failed contenders bowed out.
Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted from his position earlier this fall, with Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, along with Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise, vying for his position. Neither were successful, so now nine new individuals are trying to take the seat.
- Rep. Jack Bergman (Michigan)
- Rep. Byron Donalds (Florida)
- Rep. Tom Emmer (Minnesota)
- Rep. Kevin Hern (Oklahoma)
- Rep. Mike Johnson (Louisiana)
- Rep. Dan Meuser (Pennsylvania)
- Rep. Gary Palmer (Alabama)
- Rep. Austin Scott (Georgia)
- Rep. Pete Sessions (Texas)
Who Has The Most Support?
Just The News argued that Rep. Donalds probably has the most support, as his candidacy announcement appeared to have more attention than some of the other potential contenders. Rep. Emmer is also rumored to be a potential favorite.
But who the House Speaker is doesn’t matter if they don’t conduct themselves according to the needs of the American people. As the world heats up from ongoing violent conflict, and rising division, we need strong leaders who are up to the job of protecting America, the American people, and what we hold dear.
