Responding to the Call: Embracing Jesus as Our King

Sep 26, 2023

“The righteous cry, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to them that are of a broken heart; and saves such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivers him out of them all” (Psalm 34:17-19).

On a miraculous night, more than 2,000 years ago, a King was born and we have never been the same. Believers know Jesus as our savior, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The scriptures depict him as the ultimate King over all and affirm his divinity and authority. It’s difficult to adequately describe Him, giving Him all the glory, honor, and praise He deserves. He is the “author of life” (Acts 3:15), “the champion who initiates and perfects our faith” (Hebrews 2:2), “God over all” (Romans 9:5), “full of grace and truth” (John 1:14), and “strong, filled with wisdom” (Philippians 2:8).

Throughout Jesus’s life and beyond, His kingship was recognized and challenged. The question arises: How should WE respond? Embracing Jesus as our Savior is pivotal. We are to deny ourselves, take up our cross daily, and follow Him (Luke 9:23). Those who follow Jesus and obey His word are promised abundance (John 10:10), rest for their souls (Matthew 11:29), and ultimately, eternal life (Hebrews 5:9). This unwavering faith, is the path to salvation as offered by Jesus, our King. As followers, we must seek His kingdom first, love others, and walk the path He has laid before us. His love for us runs so deep! He is worthy of all of our worship and praise!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

“Fear you not; for I am with you: be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness” (Isaiah 41:10).

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).
