RFK Jr. Could Redirect Ukraine Funds To Support US Mothers

Apr 25, 2024

2024 presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. revealed his platform for life in April, which he is calling “More Choices, More Life” and hopes to reduce abortion in America.

RFK Jr. wants a “massive subsidized daycare initiative” while also promising to “safeguard women’s reproductive rights.” He hopes to “pay 100% of care for the three million children under five who live beneath our poverty line” while capping the cost of daycare at “10% of family income for everyone else,” according to the Washington Stand.

Though his platform has received mixed reactions, it is arguably one of the most well-thought through of all those running for presidential office in 2024. He seems to be catering both to Christians and secular women in promising support that has never arrived from either mainstream Republicans or Democrats. Giving Women The Decision

“These payments will not be available to corporate daycare chains or the hedge funds that own them,” the  RFK Jr. campaign clarified. “They will fund only single-location small businesses — as well as parents who decide to stay home with their children.”

RFK Jr.’s campaign also noted that “since economics is a major driver of abortion, this policy will do more to lower abortion rates than any coercive measure ever could.” And one of the ways to ensure this economic support is to potentially redirect “funds being spent on the war in Ukraine” to support American mothers and their families. Surprising Support For The Platform

“While RFK Jr. is wrong for pledging to continue to protect the ‘right’ to destroy innocent lives, he deserves credit for not ducking the need to help women choose life,” CatholicVote president Brian Burch said in a statement shared by the Christian Post. “[Kennedy] also deserves credit for recognizing the unique role of stay-at-home parents by proposing that any daycare subsidies equally apply to mothers or fathers who choose to stay home to raise their children. Kennedy’s position, while problematic in principle, aims in the right direction.”

Similar comments were made to the outlet by Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America VP of Communications Emily Erin Davis. “Robert F. Kennedy Jr., though not a pro-life candidate, at least acknowledges the truth that Joe Biden and the Democrats sweep under the rug,” she said. A “majority of women who’ve had abortions would rather have kept their child if they’d had adequate emotional or financial support,” she continued. “We still have major differences with Kennedy on the human rights of the unborn … He is not listing a single limit or boundary he would place on abortion.”
