Sec. Hegseth Backs Sinking Cartel Boats

by | Dec 3, 2025

The Pentagon just gave a major update on Operation Southern Spear. This is the U.S. military campaign that is blowing up armed drug-smuggling boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. In just a few months, American forces have carried out 21 strikes and killed 82 narco-terrorists who were carrying military weapons on the open sea.

Every single strike is checked by lawyers and top commanders first. Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson said the mission is 100 % legal under U.S. and international law. The operation only goes after boats that have already shown they are ready to shoot at our troops.

These drug gangs are not regular criminals anymore. They drive super-fast boats armed with machine guns, rocket launchers, and even anti-ship missiles. They have fired at U.S. Navy helicopters and Coast Guard ships many times.

President Trump Takes the Gloves Off

President Trump labeled these cartels “foreign terrorist organizations.” That gives our military clear rules to treat them like ISIS or al-Qaeda at sea. Drugs coming in on those boats killed more than 200,000 Americans last year, and the number is finally dropping fast because of these strikes.

Special Operations Command begged for more power to stop the attacks. They told leaders that normal police methods no longer work against gangs that act like small armies. President Trump listened and said, “Go get them.”

Fireballs and Fear

A powerful video posted by Townhall shows President Trump promising even tougher action, including strikes on land if needed. The crowd cheered because everyone knows the poison has to stop at the source. Seaborne drugs are already down 91 % because the cartels are scared to leave port.

Photographer Thomas Hawk, whose own brother died from cartel drugs, wrote a fiery X post defending the troops. He ripped the media for crying about “poor fishermen” when the boats are full of armed killers. Hawk pointed out that two people die from overdoses every single day just in San Francisco; hundreds of thousands across the country every year.

The giant fireballs you see in the videos are not from gasoline for fishing. They come from crates of ammunition and military explosives the cartels carry. Those huge secondary explosions prove our forces are hitting exactly the right targets.

Hegseth: “Bottom of the Ocean”

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth went on Newsmax and laid it out plain and simple. “Catch-and-release doesn’t work with terrorists,” he said. “We are putting narco-terrorists on the bottom of the ocean so they never kill another American kid.”

Hegseth explained that past presidents used “kid gloves.” President Trump took the gloves off. The Secretary called the mission a total game-changer because the cartels now live in fear instead of our families.

He praised the brave men and women who fly the missions and pull the triggers. “These are the best warriors on planet Earth,” Hegseth said. “President Trump and I have their backs 100 %.”

One mission got extra attention: a September 2 strike on a Venezuelan drug boat. The first missile hit and set the boat on fire. Some armed crew members survived the first blast and were still a danger, so a second missile finished the job.

Adm. Frank “Mitch” Bradley, commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, personally ordered that second strike. The White House confirmed it was pure self-defense to protect American forces in the area.

Secretary Hegseth signed off on the rules that allowed it. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the boat was full of drugs and weapons headed straight for the United States. Destroying it completely made sure the threat was gone for good.

Some politicians want more public reports, but the rules are the same ones we use against terrorists in the Middle East. Congress already gets classified briefings, so our secrets stay safe. Slowing down the troops with extra red tape would only help the cartels.

Just Getting Started

The official Pentagon update makes it clear: Operation Southern Spear is only getting stronger. Secretary Hegseth called Adm. Bradley an “American hero” and promised that many more strikes are coming.

President Trump, Secretary Hegseth, and our military are all on the same team. They are saving thousands of American lives every single week by stopping the boats before the poison reaches our streets.

This is what real leadership looks like. This is what winning the war on drugs actually means. Operation Southern Spear is tough, smart, and 100 % on the side of the American people. Our troops deserve a standing ovation and our full support as they keep fighting.
