Spirit-Led: Embracing God’s Path

Jan 30, 2024

“Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives” (Galatians 5:25).

God’s Spirit lives within us. Believers are profoundly called to walk in unison with the Spirit, allowing Him to align our actions and decisions with the teachings of Jesus as found in scripture. We are to avoid anything that would make us stray from the path He has set for us.

Jesus cautions us in Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those that find it are few.” Yes, the journey may be challenging, but with God’s strength and guidance, we are equipped with all we need to be successful. There is no other life endeavor as important as this.

Practical steps for walking in the Spirit:

1. Embrace the Word. Immerse yourself in the scriptures. Participate in Bible studies or listen to trusted spiritual mentors for deeper understanding.

2. Cultivate Godly Routines. Prioritize your time with God. Carve out time for regular prayer and Bible reading. According to the Center for Bible Engagement, adults who read their Bible four or more times a week are 61% less likely to fall into risky behaviors, such as excessive drinking, pornography, smoking, sex outside of marriage, and gambling. For teenagers, this number stands at 69%. Despite this, 29% of self-identified born-again Christians do not read their Bible at all. Good habits keep us on the right path.

3. Reject Distractions. Refuse to give in to worldly impulses and temptations. Let the Bible be your standard. If something gives you pause, heed the warning. If you stumble, get back on the path quickly. Confess, repent, and correct unhealthy behaviors. Allow the Holy Spirit to redirect you and bring you back into alignment.

4. Encourage Mutual Spiritual Growth. As Christ’s ambassador, sharing Jesus is the most precious gift you can offer someone. Be supportive and encouraging, and serve as accountability partners.

“This is what the Lord says, ‘Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, Godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls’” (Jeremiah 6:16).

“Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil” (Proverbs 4:25-27).

“And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left” (Isaiah 30:21).

Prayer

Father God, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Help us make good decisions and resist distractions that would be a hindrance to our spiritual growth. We want to walk through the narrow gate and follow You. Give us strength and guidance every day, Lord. In Your name, we pray, Amen!
