State Largely Bans LGBTQ Flags In Public School Classrooms

Tennessee passed a bill in February that largely banned the presence of LGBTQ flags in public school classrooms.

The Republican-controlled Tennessee House voted 70-24 to send the legislation to the Senate, where a vote could happen before the end of the month. The vote sounded quite intense, as one Democratic Rep. Justin Jones apparently yelled at House Speaker Carmen Sexton to the point where Republicans voted Jones out of order, halting all of his comments.

Two other people who opposed the bill were also kicked out of the gallery for talking throughout proceedings. “I am proud when I walk into the public schools in my city, to see the LGBTQ flag in the classrooms, proudly put up by teachers who understand the suffering that many of their students go through,” Democratic Rep. The LGBTQ Flag’s Meaning

The purpose of the LGBTQ flag is to display one’s sexual preference for all the world to see. Unlike other flags, which represent countries and cultures, the LGBTQ flag is an exclusively sexual piece of decor, which doesn’t belong in any public school classroom where children are present. This is not an attack on those who identify with the flag, but a push to remove sexual content from the immediate access of children.
