A study published by WalletHub in June revealed that San Francisco is the worst-run major city in America, surprising absolutely no one who has visited the Bay Area in the last decade.

WalletHub’s team looked at the operating efficiency of 148 of America’s largest cities in order to determine which were the best- and worst-run. The team looked at dimensions related to the (a) financial stability, (b) education, (c) health, (d) safety, (e) economy, and (f) infrastructure and pollution of each city, broken down into a handful of key metrics.

“The best-run cities in America use their budgets most effectively to provide high-quality financial security, education, health, safety and transportation to their residents. Many of the top cities also have a very low amount of outstanding government debt per capita, which can prevent financial troubles in the future,” said WalletHub Analyst Chris Lupo.

The Worst-Run City: San Francisco

San Francisco ranked in the lowest across a wealth of key metrics, including having some of the largest long-term outstanding debt (#146), the lowest high school graduation rates (#148), while Oakland (just across the Bay) had some of the highest violent crime rates (#142), likely because San Francisco has lowered many violent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors. This means people are still committing plenty of violent crimes throughout the city, but its leaders don’t want that showing up on their report cards, so just changed the definition to work more in their favor. There are literally countless homeless people, drug addicts, illegal aliens, and criminal organized gangs residing in the city, which were likely not included in the final metrics for “percentage of population in poverty,” skewing the results and not placing San Francisco in the highest ranking on the list. However, analysis by Million Voices suggests San Francisco has one of the highest populations of people living well below the poverty line.

California Is A Catastrophe

California was also ranked as having the lowest quality roads in the country, with cities such as Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, Anaheim, Long Beach, and Los Angeles taking the top six spots. (RELATED: Study Warns California’s Green Energy Scam Will Cost Households Tens of Thousands)

Despite being the hotbed for pro-climate change people, California’s cities also ranked top of air pollution. Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Santa Ana and Riverside had the worst air quality of all 148 cities analyzed, calling into question the high taxes placed on residents to allegedly “fight climate change.”

What Are America’s Best-Run Cities?

Provo, Utah, ranked #1 as America’s best-run city, which shouldn’t surprise anyone who has visited or lived in this gorgeous part of our nation. Provo was closely followed by Nampa, Idaho, Manchester, New Hampshire, Boise, Idaho, and Nashua, New Hampshire.

“Provo, UT, is the best-run city, and the reasons for that are that the city is experiencing business growth of around 5.2%, alongside a high school graduation rate of nearly 91%, a combination that signals a strong foundation for the future,” WalletHub wrote in their analysis. “Provo is also a city that is safe and keeps its infrastructure well-maintained. It has the fourth-lowest violent crime rate in the country, the seventh-lowest property crime rate, and the 22nd-best road quality in the country.”

Contact Your Reps To Protect America’s Future

It seems like every time we at Million Voices speak to lawmakers and their teams, they all tell us the same thing: if just 10 people in their district write them letters about issues that matter to them, they know they have a serious crisis on their hands. A thousand people could message that same lawmaker via email or social media, and it would mean nothing. But hand-written, or even printed and signed letters, will make your politicians take action (if they really care about your vote, that is).

Contacting your representatives should be easy, but there are myriad ways they can ignore your messages. That’s where we come in.
