The Art of Waiting: Cultivating Patience in God’s Presence

Throughout life, we will all find ourselves in seasons of waiting. Waiting for a job, a health diagnosis, a spouse, or even the results of an election. This is not easy; waiting on the Lord to answer our prayers can be frustrating. We become anxious that He won’t answer in the way we want Him to or that He will not answer at all. Our sinful nature makes it hard for us to have patience while waiting.

But there is good news! With the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, waiting patiently with a content heart, our trust in the Lord increases moment by moment. As we practice the rhythm of trust and waiting on the Lord, not only does our hope grow, but so does our faith. How can we obediently practice the art of waiting? Draw near to Jesus through His word — the Bible, pray daily, listen to worship music, and stay connected to your local church and community of faith. Keep seeking the Lord and your soul will be renewed.

“Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord” (Psalm 27:14).

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; ad they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

“Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Almighty God, we thank You for making a way for our troubled hearts to be redeemed and restored through Christ. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, help us to wait patiently for your guidance and direction. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray, Amen!
