The Lost Sheep: God’s Relentless Love

Apr 14, 2024

God’s word in Hebrews 13:5 is our promise, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” In other words, God is not going anywhere, even in the moments we stubbornly try to push Him away or handle things ourselves. He will always be steadfast in His support and love for us. He will never, under any circumstances, abandon us or fail to provide us with the support we need. The Lord is our refuge and an ever-present helper. Be encouraged by this truth!

Certainly, the most profound example of God’s steadfast devotion can be found in the parable of the lost sheep, as told in Luke 15:3-7. Jesus speaks of a shepherd with a hundred sheep, but one got lost. Rather than remaining with the ninety-nine, the shepherd went after the lost sheep until he found it. Overjoyed, he put the sheep on his shoulders and returned home. After that, He called his friends and neighbors, saying, “Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.” Jesus concludes this parable by saying, “I tell you, in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” This parable emphasizes God’s unyielding love for His children—how He will go to great lengths to find and bring back those who have strayed. No matter how far we wander, He will find us.
