The Power of Prayer: The Same Yesterday and Today

“Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble and keep on praying” (Romans 12:12).

Our prayers invite God to demonstrate His majesty and His power! The Red Sea was parted when Moses prayed. Elijah prevented rain in Gilead for three years when he petitioned God. People have been healed, the blind made to see, demons cast out, and even the dead raised to life through faith-filled prayers of people, in Jesus’ name. The power of prayer for those who believe cannot be understated!

Prayer is as relevant in our lives today as it was thousands of years ago. God is the same today as He was then—He NEVER changes! Prayer is more than the words we speak. It is the recognition that we are not enough without Him. We aren’t righteous without God. We don’t have wisdom for the answers we really need. We don’t have the power to heal or to make supernatural opportunities happen, nor do we have the outlet for needed forgiveness without Jesus. God is omnipotent (all-powerful), and without Him we are nothing! BUT, with Him, there are no limits to what we can do! “Nothing, you see, is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37).

Our lifeline connection with the Lord deepens through prayer as we invite Him into every situation. Prayer is our most potent weapon against the enemy, especially when it agrees with God’s Word. Evangelist, Priscilla Shirer said, “Prayer is the portal that brings the power of Heaven down to earth. It is kryptonite to the enemy and to all his ploys against you.”

Spending time in the presence of God in prayer restores our spirits and brings us peace. “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). When we humble ourselves and open our hearts before God, He will hear and deliver us from our troubles (Psalm 34:17). He longs to connect with us in fellowship and to help us in our time of need. If we have faith and humbly go to God in prayer, He is able to do more than we could ever imagine!

“Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

“But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you” (Matthew 6:6).

“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you” (Jeremiah 29:12)

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done” (Philippians 4:6).

Prayer: Father God, we come to You in worship and thanksgiving for being such a GOOD, GOOD Father! You are the same God that Moses, Elijah, and so many others prayed to. You’re the same God that performed miracles and wonders on the earth then, and You’re still in the miracle business today! We ask that You continue to work in our lives, increasing our faith in You. Remind us to go to You in prayer and thanksgiving for everything! We invite You into our space. Give us hearts of submission and fill us with Your Spirit. Help us to agree with You in all we say and do. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray, Amen!

Final Thought: The Lord is the source of our strength and salvation! Trust Him in prayer with the innermost parts of your heart.
