The Strong Tower
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe.” Proverbs 18:10 (NASB)
There is SHELTER in the name of Jesus! In difficult times, we are often forced to endure things we never thought we’d have to endure or make decisions we never thought we’d have to make. Our human instinct is to depend on ourselves or other people rather than looking to God for the help we so desperately need. No matter the source of our pain—from the consequences of our own mistakes or sin, to loss of a job, parenting struggles, unmet desires, relationship problems, or even something as tragic as an unexpected death of a loved one—God promises that He will deliver us from our pit of despair if we will just lean into Him. He is our Shelter, our Healer, our Counselor, our Prince of Peace, our Deliverer, our Hiding Place, our Savior. Let’s let Him be all of those things for us!
No matter what we’re going through, Jesus understands. In fact, He knew in advance! Nothing is a surprise to Him, and He is ready to help us, no matter where we find ourselves. He has paid the debt for all of our sins and wants to heal all of our broken pieces. He is ready to be our STRONG TOWER. All we have to do is call out His name. He will provide the shelter that only He can provide. There is no shelter greater than the hands of our Risen Savior!
Let’s thank Him and praise Him for being our place of refuge! As we read God’s Word, let’s allow it to fill us with peace, knowing that He is our safe place.
“You who sit down in the High God’s presence, spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow, Say this: “God, you’re my refuge. I trust in you and I’m safe!” That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps, shields you from deadly hazards. His huge outstretched arms protect you—under them you’re perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm. Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night, not flying arrows in the day, Not disease that prowls through the darkness, not disaster that erupts at high noon. Even though others succumb all around, drop like flies right and left, no harm will even graze you. You’ll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance, watch the wicked turn into corpses. Yes,
because God’s your refuge, the High God your very own home, Evil can’t get close to you, harm can’t get through the door. He ordered his angels to guard you wherever you go. If you stumble, they’ll catch you; their job is to keep you from falling. You’ll walk unharmed among lions and snakes, and kick young lions and serpents from the path. “If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust
me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party. I’ll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!” Psalm 91:1–16 (MSG)
“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 (ESV)
“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” Hebrews 4:16 (NLT)
“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” 1 Chronicles 16:11 (ESV)
